Junior Festival 2024

Junior Festival will take place in March (dates TBD) and will be held at Ohio Wesleyan University.

What is Junior Festival:

For those of you who may not know exactly what Junior Festival is, here is a brief explanation.  Students learn and memorize two pieces, one of them is of their choice, and one is from a required list. They then perform these pieces for two judges in a classroom or studio setting and receive comments and an overall rating such as Superior (5pts), Excellent (4pts) etc….  Judge can sound like a scary term, but the judges are really just other experienced piano teachers (we’ve been judging for many years, though not for our own students!).  After a student has earned 15 points (takes 3 years minimum if awarded a superior rating each year) a personalized 15 pt. Trophy Cup is awarded.

From the National Federation of Music Clubs website:

"The NFMC Festivals Program is designed to give Junior (age 18 and younger) and Adult member musicians of all abilities the opportunity to perform and receive a yearly evaluation in a non-competitive environment. Participation in NFMC Festivals promotes music study, stimulates interest in the musical literature of both America and the world, and encourages each participant to reach a high standard of musical achievement. The NFMC Festivals Cup Award Plan and Honor Certificates offer additional incentives to encourage continued participation in NFMC Festivals."
