Teaching Program
Thank you for your interest in DISCOVERY
Piano Studio.  Below is a list of highlights and
important facts that will give you an overview
of our teaching program and philosophy.
Practicing
Students are expected to put forth an honest effort by practicing a minimum of 5 days/week.
Beginning students should practice a minimum of 10-15 minutes/day and more as they
progress.  Consistency in practicing is important to the overall success and enjoyment of
piano lessons.  NOTE: students must keep fingernails trimmed short to promote good piano
technique.

Completed Assignments
Any written assignments (i.e. theory book work) should be completed before the next lesson.

Recitals
Students are expected to participate in recitals and to have their piece/s well prepared and
memorized preferably 2 weeks before the recital date.  (memorization does not apply to duets.)

Attitude
While we’re not expecting students to be cheerful and prepared at every lesson, they should
come with a willingness to learn and be teachable.

Respect
Students need to pay attention, follow directions and display self-control (i.e. not playing the
piano while the teacher is talking, talking back,etc...)during lessons.  The use of proper
manners is expected at all times and students are not to chew gum during lessons.

Communication
It’s very important for students to voice their questions and comments during lessons so we
can learn their music interests, learning style as well as be confident that they understand
new material and concepts.  Parental input is also encouraged.
